ostrich and the monkey bar....

Inspired by the Food Network's Restaurant Makeover program, H and I have decided to pay a visit to all the establishments that have appeared on the show; at least the ones that appear relatively interesting. Last night, The Monkey Bar became the first of many such excursions. We arrived a few minutes late for our eight o'clock reservation due to the usual downtown traffic. Man, was it was packed!

The place looked spectacular, albeit a tad smaller than it had appeared on television, which is to be expected, I guess. Dinner consisted of duck and veggie spring rolls, lamb, ostrich medallions, shoe string fries and veggies (bok choy, arugula, asparagus, broccoli). Drinks came in the form of the Monkey Bar cocktail, a Chocolatini martini and the Monkey Bar coffee. For dessert, we had the creme caramel ice cream with strawberries and a mini-pecan cake. The food and drinks were absolutely fantastic and the ambience equally so! Just before we left, the owner/executive chef also stopped by our table which allowed us to express our gratitude for providing such a wonderful experience. The Monkey Bar now ranks as one of my faves in the city.

On the way home, H and I reminisced. As funny as it seems, six years seems to have flown by. And this phase of academia went by as quickly as I had promised. Six years is an eternity in some contexts, yet, merely a fragment in relation to forevermore.

Happy anniversary, baby!
